The Broward Symphony will perform a free concert devoted to the music of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Bailey Concert Hall on the Broward College campus in Davie. No tickets are required.
The program, titled Masterworks I, centers on “Scheherazade,” a symphonic suite with soaring solos and lush orchestral textures. The evening also includes “Capriccio Espagnol,” a lively piece built on Spanish folk melodies, with prominent percussion and dance rhythms.
The orchestra is a volunteer group of more than 70 musicians, including Broward College students and community members. Terence Kirchgessner conducts. The Broward Symphony presents four concerts a year, running from October through May.
Bailey Concert Hall is at 3501 Davie Rd. in Davie.
