Boynton Beach police are asking the public for help identifying a driver captured on surveillance video before a young puppy was found dead in a parking lot earlier this month.

Officers responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 to a report of a dead dog in a parking space behind a property in the 1500 block of Southwest Eighth Street. An animal cruelty officer found a small white female Jack Russell terrier, about 6 months old, that appeared to have been run over, police said.

Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the area. It shows a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Tesla, entering the lot around 1:35 p.m. Police said the driver parked, got out and walked around the car while the dog was nearby. A few minutes later the car drove away, leaving the puppy motionless on the ground.

Detectives are working to identify the driver and determine what happened. Anyone who saw suspicious activity near Southwest Eighth Street on Nov. 3, or who recognizes the vehicle, driver or dog, is asked to contact Detective Sala at 561-742-6818 or SalaN@bbfl.us. Police also posted the surveillance video on the department’s YouTube channel.
