The Boynton Beach City Commission held a short meeting on November 5 that included a street renaming honoring a former mayor and an early look at budget pressure from Amendment 3.
The city designated SE 1st Avenue as Jerry Taylor Avenue. Taylor served five terms as mayor, for a total of 13 years. He thanked supporters, his wife and his children during the ceremony.
The commission also approved two proclamations, one for Veterans Appreciation Month and one for Family Caregivers Month. Officials celebrated local achievements, including the Boynton Beach library winning the Large Library of the Year Award, and noted awards won by the city’s Economic Development Council.
City Manager gave a report on Amendment 3, the property tax measure. A workshop on its fiscal impacts is scheduled for January 2027 and will cover city and Community Redevelopment Agency projections, possible cuts and revenue options. Department directors have until January 23 to submit preliminary budget cuts and revenue proposals to address the projected property tax shortfall.
Only a few residents spoke during public comment. The next commission meeting is set for December 1.
