Former NFL star Antonio Brown pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated assault with a firearm in connection with a 2025 shooting outside a celebrity boxing match in Miami. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez sentenced him to three years of probation, with weekly counseling sessions and a ban on possessing a firearm among the conditions.
Brown had originally been charged with attempted murder. Police said he grabbed a handgun from a security staffer at the event and fired two shots at a man he had fought with earlier. Brown, 38, said he was defending himself as others tried to steal jewelry from him.
Prosecutor Howard Rosen said his office agreed to the reduced charge because there was a question whether Brown was actually trying to shoot the victim, who was walking away at the time. The victim was grazed in the neck, attended the hearing and has said he does not want to press charges. Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, said the plea lets his client avoid prison and a criminal conviction.
Brown was extradited from Dubai in November 2025 after an arrest warrant was issued in June of that year. Outside the courtroom, he thanked God and said he wanted to get back to his family.
