The Boca Raton Public Library has announced a 2027 regional partnership with the Scripps National Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Friends of the Boca Raton Public Library. The library said the partnership gives local students a chance to take part in the country’s longest-running educational competition.
The Friends are the exclusive regional sponsor for Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties. The regional bee will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, 2027, at Spanish River Library. The regional champion will go on to the national competition in May 2027 and compete for the Scripps Cup.
Schools in those four counties can enroll in the 2026-2027 program through Jan. 15. Educators can sign up at SpellingBee.com/enroll.
Joleen Wielkie, the library’s manager of library services, said the library was proud to run the 2027 bee and thanked the Friends for the sponsorship. Library officials said regional bees also help students build public speaking skills and confidence.
