The pilot of a small plane made an emergency landing Monday in a rural field in Redlands, in Miami-Dade County. The incident happened around noon, a few miles west of Miami Executive Airport, near Krome Avenue and Southwest 122nd Street.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said no one was injured. Authorities have not said what led the pilot to set the plane down outside an airport.

Federal Aviation Administration records show the aircraft is a single-engine Cessna 172R Skyhawk built in 1997. It is registered to Silver Express, which operates under the name Flight Academy, based at Miami Executive Airport.

The landing took place in an area of farmland and open lots south of the airport, where small aircraft occasionally come down. Residents who notice unusual aircraft activity near Krome Avenue can expect the investigation to continue as officials look into the cause.
