The No. 1 Miami Hurricanes travel to South Bend, Indiana, to face No. 4 Notre Dame on Saturday night, and they will be without one of their top offensive players. Receiver Malachi Toney is expected to miss four to six weeks with an ankle injury.
Toney, a second-year player, has become a favorite target of quarterback Darian Mensah. Miami enters the game with the nation’s top-scoring offense, averaging 47.6 points and 534.9 total yards per game. The Hurricanes are undefeated.
With Toney out, Miami may lean more on veteran running back Mark Fletcher Jr., who has contributed both on the ground and through the air. Fletcher scored three touchdowns against North Carolina, a game in which he also caught passes. He said the team’s approach will not change.
“We think we are the hunters,” Fletcher said, describing the team’s mindset that he said drives its preparation each week.
Miami also received good news on the recruiting front Thursday. Jacksonville five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright, the country’s top-ranked recruit, committed to the Hurricanes. He plans to enroll early and join the team in 2027.
The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET in South Bend. Notre Dame will be looking to hand Miami its first loss of the season.
