Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department crews repaired a 12-inch water main break in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood on Thursday, but a targeted precautionary boil water advisory remains in effect.

Officials responded to Northeast 23rd Street and Fourth Avenue after crews said a private contractor struck the main and ruptured it. Video posted to social media showed murky floodwater spreading across the street, with workers wading and diving into the water as they worked on the break.

Residents told 7News the water rose to their front doors and kept the street underwater through the morning. One resident, Lala DeKale, said the water reached her feet and ankles and appeared to come from a construction site because it was white rather than clear. Some residents said their water service was shut off for hours.

As of late Thursday night, the street was still flooded and crews remained on scene. Officials said they have contacted the residents affected by the boil water advisory.
