A 27-year-old Lantana man was sentenced Thursday to 33 years in prison in a plea deal that dropped a first-degree murder charge tied to a fatal drug sale in Boynton Beach in 2024.
Isaiah Delgado pleaded guilty to manslaughter, three counts of trafficking in cocaine, five counts of selling cocaine and two counts of selling oxycodone. Prosecutors dropped a second-degree murder charge later in 2024. Circuit Judge Sarah Willis credited him with 814 days already served in the Palm Beach County Jail. A jury trial had been set for Oct. 30.
Boynton Beach police found Kalev Kangro dead at an apartment at 630 East Woolbright Road on Feb. 7, 2024. An autopsy determined he died of acute fentanyl and cocaine intoxication. Investigators traced calls from Kangro’s phone to Delgado, and text messages showed offers of pills and cocaine on Feb. 6 and 7. Police arrested Delgado on July 9, 2024, on a premeditated murder charge.
Kangro’s wife, Laura Jimenez, told investigators that her husband had recently started using drugs and had no prescriptions or diagnosed illnesses. The case shows how quickly counterfeit or street pills can turn deadly, and the sentence closes a case that began with a single apartment visit in Boynton Beach.
