Martin County Transit, LLC has withdrawn from its operating contract for the MARTY public transit system, ending service immediately as of Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026.
The company said insurance, fuel and maintenance costs have climbed well beyond what it projected when it bid for and won the contract in July 2025. It said it absorbed significant financial losses and worked with Martin County on possible adjustments, but no workable financial solution emerged.
Karen Deigl, the company’s president and CEO, said the firm entered the agreement in good faith and tried to find a way forward. She acknowledged how important MARTY is to riders and the community, and said the decision was not made lightly.
The abrupt halt leaves riders without bus service in Martin County until another arrangement is in place. The source report did not say how the county plans to restore service or whether it has named a replacement operator, so residents who depend on MARTY for work, school or medical trips should watch for official notices from the county.
