Palm Beach County’s Division of Mosquito Control plans to spray for mosquitoes from the air beginning a half hour after sunset on Sunday, Oct. 11, weather permitting. The county said the operation responds to rising mosquito levels and the threat of vector-borne disease.
The spray zone covers about 265,000 acres of populated land west of Military Trail. It reaches Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Acreage, Loxahatchee, unincorporated Lake Worth, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Boca Raton. In the Glades, it includes Pahokee, Belle Glade, South Bay and Lake Harbor.
If weather forces a cancellation, crews will try again each evening until a spray run is completed. Residents can call the aerial spray hotline at 561-642-8775 to check whether a flight went up.
The county is also urging people who will be outdoors after dark to use an EPA-registered insect repellent and wear long pants and long sleeves. Residents should drain or reduce standing water on their property to cut down on breeding sites.
