A 28-year-old Belle Glade woman has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office probable cause affidavit. Investigators identified the suspect as Keyera Burkes.
The shooting happened Oct. 21 near Southwest Sixth Street and Southwest Avenue C in Belle Glade. Deputies who responded to reports of gunfire found that a vehicle had been struck. Authorities said the intended target was 16-year-old Isaac Hornsby III, who was involved in an argument with a woman before a shot was fired.
The bullet missed the teen and shattered the rear window of a Nissan Rogue carrying two men. Neither man was hurt.
Detectives reviewed surveillance video, which they said showed the teen in a physical confrontation with the woman before he walked away. The footage then allegedly showed the woman retrieving a handgun, pointing it toward the teen and firing one shot. Deputies also relied on witness statements, ShotSpotter data and photo lineups. Two juvenile witnesses later identified Burkes as the shooter.
Based on the investigation, detectives found probable cause for the charges. The case is now in the court system.
