The Milwaukee Brewers won their first World Series in franchise history on Wednesday, Oct. 29, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. Milwaukee took the best-of-7 series four games to one.

Two members of the team have connections to Palm Beach County. Brewers manager Pat Murphy attended Florida Atlantic University, where he was a standout player for the Owls’ inaugural baseball team in 1981 and was also on the 1982 squad.

Pitcher Shane Drohan grew up in Fort Lauderdale and graduated in 2017 from Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach. He later pitched at Florida State University.

For South Florida fans, the title brings a homegrown connection to a championship run that drew attention across the state.
