A new family-owned eye care practice has opened in Westlake, giving residents another health care option closer to home. Dr. Tuyet-Suong Pham and her husband built Westlake Eye Care from the ground up, and it opened this fall. The office offers routine eye exams and diagnoses and treats eye diseases.

Pham said she has wanted to run her own practice for a long time and wanted Westlake families to get care without traveling far. She said the practice has seen a couple hundred patients over the past two months and is accepting new ones.

Patient Jeff Cap said the office is a short trip for him now. He said he no longer has to drive 30 to 40 minutes for an appointment.

Warning about nearsightedness

Pham said she is seeing more nearsightedness in children. She cited a projection that half of the population will be nearsighted by 2050. She said screen time and less time spent outdoors can contribute, and she urged parents to have their children’s eyes checked.

Pham said nearsightedness can raise the risk of serious eye problems later in life, including retinal detachment, glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Cap, meanwhile, said he would like to see the emergency room in Westlake grow into a full hospital as the city expands.

Westlake Eye Care is at 4931 Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays. The office is closed Fridays and Sundays.
