A 17-year-old Northwest Miami-Dade girl is recovering from serious injuries she suffered when the family’s pit bull attacked her behind their home. Makaylah Rolle was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center the Wednesday before she spoke with WSVN 7News on Monday.

Rolle said the dog grabbed her leg and then her pants as she walked toward its cage, and she fell onto the cage. The dog bit her arms and legs, according to photos her family provided. It let go only after she got up, she said.

Since being discharged, Rolle has returned to the hospital at least once because several gashes kept bleeding. Her aunt, a nurse, said the family checks and cleans the wounds every day. Rolle can now walk on her own and move her arms and feet, which she could not do at first, the aunt said.

Miami-Dade Animal Services removed the dog from the home a day after the attack. The pit bull is expected to be euthanized.

The family has racked up substantial medical bills as Rolle works to get well enough to return to school for her senior year. A link to help cover her expenses was included with the original story.
