Body camera footage released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office shows the lead-up to a deadly police shooting outside a club on Northwest 23rd Street in Wynwood. The shooting happened on June 14, 2025.
Police said officers were called to the club because a patron was causing trouble. As they arrived, video shows a crowd on the sidewalk and a man dressed in all white holding a gun at his side. Officers pulled back, and moments later shots rang out and the armed man was hit. The audio on the recording begins only after the gunfire, when officers can be heard ordering him to show his hands.
During the scene, officers did not know that a bullet had also struck a woman sitting in her car nearby. Evelyn Valdes, 28, who was out celebrating her birthday, died from her gunshot wound.
Prosecutors cleared the officers involved of wrongdoing days before the footage was made public. Valdes’ mother, Kristy Garcia, said the officers fired without thinking about the crowded street. The family’s attorney, Ramon Rasco, said the officers were shooting at the armed man but kept firing as they moved into a busy area.
Although the criminal investigation is closed, Garcia said the family plans to file a civil lawsuit against the City of Miami Police Department.
