The Broward Sheriff’s Office recorded a busy week of thefts, frauds and family disputes in Tamarac between Oct. 20 and Oct. 26, according to a weekly roundup published by Tamarac Talk.
The most costly case involved a vehicle valued at about $30,000 that was reported stolen Oct. 24 near 4980 E. Sabal Palm Blvd. The owner told deputies he had not been driving it and learned that an unidentified woman had driven it into a tree. The car was towed to D&G Towing and documented as an auto theft.
Fraud reports were frequent. A Tamarac woman said a $2,500 check cleared her account on Oct. 24, and she suspects technicians from Blue Stream Fiber took checks from her home during an installation about two weeks earlier. The report lists an estimated loss of $6,000, but investigators did not establish who took the checks. Separately, a business reported a $2,000 loss on Oct. 22 after a buyer paid for a recreational vehicle advertised on a website.
Other thefts included a dog valued at about $3,000 taken between 3 and 4 p.m. on Oct. 25, and a vehicle break-in on Oct. 22 in which four credit cards and a Florida ID were removed from a glove compartment. Deputies said the victim later saw unauthorized charges in several locations. At Marshalls on West Commercial Boulevard, a man stole sneakers and grooming products on Oct. 23, and store cameras captured the theft.
Several domestic calls also came in. On Oct. 20, a mother reported her teenage son grabbed scissors and talked about suicide, and deputies determined he met the criteria for an involuntary mental health exam under the Baker Act. In another call, deputies said a woman who was worried about a friend found her fine when officers arrived.
