Republican U.S. Rep. Brian Mast is campaigning for reelection in Florida’s 21st Congressional District, which covers St. Lucie and Martin counties and parts of northern Palm Beach County. In an interview with WPBF 25 News, Mast said his priorities have not changed as he seeks a sixth term.

Mast pointed to his work on water quality, particularly efforts to cut discharges from Lake Okeechobee. He cited the EAA reservoir south of the lake and the next management plan for Lake Okeechobee. He said the Treasure Coast’s estuaries and waterways matter to both the environment and the local economy.

Mast said he worked with the EPA to set a standard defining what is toxic in the algae discharges that reached the coast about a decade ago.

Mast, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, also said veterans remain central to his work. He said he is focused on finding waste, fraud and abuse across the federal government.

On taxes, Mast said cutting spending and lowering taxes would reduce costs for Florida families. He said tax relief is the most direct way to help families keep more of their income, and he called for reductions in every tax bracket.
