A 29-year-old Sunrise man was arrested October 23 after a confrontation at the InTown Suites hotel at 8191 West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac, according to a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Jean Bernard Similien faces charges of battery, improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. Deputies responding to a reported fight said they found him pointing a knife at several people in the hotel parking lot. The deputy estimated six to seven people were nearby and turned on his patrol lights and siren to get Similien’s attention.

The report says the deputy held Similien at gunpoint and ordered him to the ground. Similien ignored the commands and tried to run, and a second deputy helped take him into custody. Deputies recovered a knife during a search.

A maintenance employee told investigators the dispute started when Similien argued with him about staying on the property. The employee said he repeatedly asked Similien to leave, but Similien kept following him. He said Similien then punched him in the face and pulled the knife on multiple people, and the incident was captured on camera.

Similien was taken to the Broward County Main Jail.
