North Broward Prep baseball player Alejandro Cabral has committed to play for Calhoun Community College in Alabama, the school announced through a public statement reported by Coconut Creek Talk.
Cabral had a strong junior season with the Eagles. He hit .283 with 14 RBIs, nine doubles and three triples. The team finished 25-8 and reached the Regional Final. Cabral has one more high school season before he heads to college.
Calhoun Community College won 14 games last season. The program has recently sent several players to the MLB Draft, including a fourth-round pick this past summer, so Cabral will join a team with a track record of getting players to pro baseball.
For South Florida baseball fans, the commitment is another sign of how far local high school players are reaching for college opportunities. Cabral and the Eagles will look to make another deep postseason run next spring.
