Visitors who head a few blocks inland from the bustle of A1A can find North Beach Village, a compact neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale that WSVN 7News describes as a retro escape. The area covers roughly five blocks in each direction, centered on Breakers Avenue, and runs toward the Intracoastal Waterway. None of its small hotels sit directly on the beach.
The neighborhood’s restaurants and shops draw most of the attention. The Wine Garden, an open-air spot, serves wines mostly from small wineries around the world. La Villa, inside the Royal Palm Hotel, pours cold beer by the pool. Archibald’s Village Bakery is a morning favorite, and its line sometimes stretches 100 yards, according to Greger Nilzen, who was interviewed for the story. Village Cafe serves all-day brunch across the street, and The Grateful Juice Bar offers smoothies and avocado toast. At night, Vitolo serves high-end Italian food.
Gallery 600, next to the Wine Garden, displays art that includes pencil drawings based on old motel postcards from the neighborhood. The artist described the area as old Florida a step from the beach.
For residents and visitors, the report is a reminder that the stretch offers a slower pace than the resort corridor. Nilzen said walking one street off the main drag makes the area feel more like a local scene.
