Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook won reelection Tuesday, defeating City Commissioner Joshua Simmons, according to unofficial results from the Broward County Supervisor of Elections. Brook had 23,322 votes, or 56%, to Simmons’ 18,409, or 44%, with 99% of precincts reporting as of 9:32 p.m.
Simmons conceded Tuesday evening in a Facebook post. He was first elected to the commission in 2018 and became the city’s first Black commissioner. He thanked residents for letting him serve.
In the five-candidate race for Seat 3, retired police Sgt. Bill Capplis led with 15,561 votes, or 39%. Marly Metayer, who entered the race to finish the term of her daughter, Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer, had 13,984 votes, or 35%. Nancy Metayer was fatally shot at her home April 1, and her husband, Stephen Bowen, has been charged with first-degree murder and evidence tampering. If the results hold, Capplis will serve the two years left on that term. Capplis spent 26 years with the Coral Springs Police Department.
The closest contest was Seat 4. Jennifer Levi, a first-time candidate and mother of three, had 17,877 votes, or 45%, to attorney Jeffrey Adelman’s 17,321, or 43%. Levi held a 556-vote lead with nearly all precincts reporting. Her campaign focused on public safety, low taxes, traffic congestion and opposition to development she believes would harm the city’s character. If the lead holds, she will succeed Simmons in Seat 4, a four-year term.
Commissioner Shawn Cerra was reelected to Seat 2 without opposition. Brook, a family law and estate planning attorney, first won a commission seat in 2002 and served as mayor from 2006 to 2010. He returned to the mayor’s office in 2019 and won reelection in 2022 and 2024.
These are unofficial results, and final certified totals will come from the county.
