A man who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in Miami-Dade County for the 2021 killing of a Colorado tourist in South Beach.

Tamarius Blair Davis, 27, shot Dustin Wakefield, 21, of Castle Rock, Colorado, on Aug. 24, 2021, in the outdoor seating area of a restaurant on Ocean Drive, police said. Davis was under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms at the time, according to police.

Wakefield was having dinner with his wife, Karina Olguin, and their 12-month-old son, Eli, when Davis waved a gun at the group, police said. Wakefield was shot during the encounter.

Davis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in May. The sentencing hearing is set for Monday in Miami-Dade County.

The case drew attention in Miami Beach because the shooting happened in a busy dining area on one of the city’s best-known streets. Visitors and residents often gather there for dinner, especially in the evenings.
