A Miami resident came face to face with a coyote while taking out the trash on Northwest 58th Street on Monday morning.

Chenier Mosley told 7News that he stepped outside briefly when the animal appeared behind him. The two stared at each other before the coyote moved toward him. Mosley said he grabbed his garbage can and chased it away.

Mosley said it was the first time he has seen a coyote in the area. 7News reported that there have been no other reports of incidents involving coyotes nearby.

The encounter has left some neighbors on alert, according to the report, though no injuries were reported. Residents who spot a coyote are generally advised to keep their distance, secure trash and pet food, and avoid feeding wildlife.
