Coconut Creek received a $550,000 state appropriation, presented during the commission’s Oct. 22 meeting by Florida Rep. Christine Hunschofsky. The money is earmarked for the city’s Northeast Utilities Expansion Project.

The funding will pay for expanded water and wastewater infrastructure north of Hillsboro Boulevard, between Lyons Road and Northwest 39th Avenue.

Hunschofsky thanked commissioners for their advocacy in Tallahassee and credited her staff with securing the money. Vice Mayor John Brodie said the upgrades will improve the water system in north Coconut Creek and benefit residents across the city.

The presentation was ceremonial. The source article did not give a construction timeline or a total project cost.
