The City of Boca Raton has started construction on the Jeffery Street railroad-highway grade crossing, according to a city announcement made after a recent groundbreaking ceremony.

The crossing sits just east of NW 2nd Avenue, where Clint Moore Street ends. It will replace the former NW 28th Street crossing and create a new east-west route through northeast Boca Raton. City officials said the connection is meant to improve access and connectivity for residents, visitors and businesses in the area.

A $2 million Congressional Community Project Funding award will help pay for the work. The city is coordinating the project with Florida East Coast Railway, LLC, and the Florida Department of Transportation.

The city’s website has more information on the project, including updates on the timeline. The source material did not give a completion date.
