Manatee Lagoon will host its annual Manatee Season Kickoff on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event is at the lagoon, 6000 N. Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach.
Visitors can paint, play cornhole and eat from food trucks. Marine-themed vendors, expert speakers and hands-on activities are also on the schedule. The popular Manatee Rescue Adventure, manatee-themed crafts and outdoor games are included.
Organizers say the day is meant to show families how they can help protect manatees during their winter stay in Florida’s warm waters.
Manatee season runs from Nov. 15 through March 31. Manatees move into the area when the temperature in Lake Worth Lagoon drops to 68 degrees or lower. They gather in the warm-water outflows of the FPL Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center, which sits next to Manatee Lagoon.
