Film fans now have a place in North Miami to browse shelves of movies on physical media. Hi Voltage Video, at 2104 NE 123rd St., Suite 217A, bills itself as the only stand-alone, dedicated video store in South Florida.

Owner Marc Ferman said the shop carries vintage VHS tapes, laserdiscs, DVDs, out-of-print titles, imports, 4K restoration discs from boutique labels and Blu-rays. Horror, comedy and musical titles are well represented, and the shop also stocks some children’s films, particularly movies customers grew up with.

The store has a Made in Miami section with films shot and produced in the city and surrounding areas, on VHS, LaserDisc and DVD. Ferman said he is seeing people in their 20s and 30s start collecting tapes, often picking up films they have never seen.

Ferman argued that owning a physical copy matters because a digital purchase does not always mean ownership. A customer who came to the shop said he was excited to find titles such as The Deadly Spawn, which he said he rarely sees elsewhere.
