The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for all of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday until 3 p.m. Monday. Forecasters say scattered totals could reach 3 to 5 inches, with isolated amounts of 5 to 7 inches.

A disturbance in the middle levels of the atmosphere is expected to move near Florida early in the week, while a front to the south slowly lifts north across South Florida. That setup will bring rounds of rain and storms that could be widespread at times, raising the risk of flooding if several inches fall in a short span.

Sunday will start with passing morning showers, then thunderstorm coverage is expected to ramp up in the afternoon and stay elevated overnight. Monday is forecast to start soggy, with storms tapering off during the afternoon.

Winds will stay breezy, keeping the rip current risk high at area beaches. A High Surf Advisory is in effect for Broward beaches.

Tuesday, Election Day, should bring brighter skies and fewer showers, though a few scattered afternoon showers remain possible. Water levels are also expected to drop to minor flood stage by then, after more than a week of moderate flooding from King Tides. Drier, warmer weather is forecast by Wednesday, with highs in the mid to possibly upper 80s.
