The City of Deerfield Beach is asking drivers to take extra care on Halloween night, as children head out in neighborhoods across the city to trick-or-treat.

In a post on its Instagram account, the city asked drivers to slow down significantly in residential areas. Drivers should also watch for children who may dart into the street, especially between parked cars.

The city also urged motorists to avoid distractions and keep their eyes on the road. Drivers should take extra care when turning or backing up, the city said.

The reminder comes as trick-or-treating runs into the evening on Saturday, Oct. 31. The city’s post was part of its Vision Zero traffic safety effort, which aims to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries.
