Family, friends and colleagues gathered Tuesday, Oct. 28, to honor Miami Beach Police Sgt. David Cajuso on the first anniversary of his death. Cajuso, 33, died in a traffic accident on Oct. 28, 2025.

Cajuso served as a police officer for a decade. He was remembered as a devoted husband and father who loved his family and his work. He leaves behind his wife, Eileen, three children, his parents, his sisters and a wide circle of friends.

In an interview, Eileen Cajuso said her faith has sustained her through the past year, including moments when grief felt unbearable. She said she would give anything to have one more ordinary day with her husband, including hearing his motorcycle pull into the driveway and watching their children run to him.

She said her faith has helped her accept that unanswered prayers do not mean God has abandoned her. “He didn’t give me the life that I wanted, but he’s never abandoned me in the life that I did choose,” she said. “And one year later, I’m still standing.”

Colleagues and loved ones described Cajuso as a gentle giant, humble and funny, with a lasting effect on the people around him. His family said his legacy continues through their memories, the lives he touched and the faith that carries them forward.
