Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz and Republican challenger Scott Singer traded sharp positions on social programs, Israel and the economy at a candidate forum in Miami Beach on Tuesday night, one week before Election Day.

The event was the second forum in the past week for candidates in Florida’s 25th Congressional District. The newly drawn seat runs from Palm Beach County to Miami Beach and has drawn tens of millions of dollars in campaign spending.

Singer again asked for a televised debate in the final days of the race. Moskowitz said voters have already seen plenty of the candidates, pointing to roughly $50 million spent on television.

Singer said redistricting made the district more favorable to Republicans, but he said he expects Democrats to back him as well. He criticized what he called socialism and anti-Israel sentiment in the Democratic Party. Moskowitz pointed to his record in Congress as proof of his support for Israel.

Forum moderator Morgan Rynor of CBS News Miami asked Moskowitz about threats made against his life last week. He said elected officials across the political spectrum face such threats, and that Jewish officials face them more often because of rising antisemitism.

On affordability, Moskowitz said he would keep backing the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and SNAP benefits. Singer said inflation must be curbed through spending discipline, and he said some food prices have come down.

More than 1.6 million Floridians have already cast ballots in early voting statewide.
