Hollywood is letting residents of low-lying, flood-prone neighborhoods park their cars in city-operated garages until Wednesday morning, ahead of another round of king tides. Coastal floodwaters made driving difficult Sunday morning.

Parking is first-come, first-served, and residents must show proof of residence, the city said.

Carl Mahler, who has lived in the area for three years, said he does not plan to use the garages. His truck sits high enough to clear the water, and he was washing salt off it Sunday. He said the flooding is the worst he has seen since he moved there.

Mahler shared video he recorded a couple of weeks ago, when water spilled over the beach and linked up with the Intracoastal Waterway. He said that event was worse than what the area is seeing now.

The offer gives drivers in the most exposed blocks a dry place to leave vehicles during the highest tides of the week.
