The Coconut Creek High School football team won its first District Championship since 2023 on Saturday night, beating Piper High School 27-24. Sanchious threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Everett Butler in the fourth quarter.
Coconut Creek opened the scoring on a rushing touchdown by Patrick Pierre Paul. Piper answered with a field goal from Nate Rodriguez, then took control after a forced fumble by Jeremiah Davis. Jonah Julien returned the loose ball 55 yards for a touchdown, and Piper led 17-7.
The Cougars cut the margin with a rushing touchdown from Cayden Delions, and D’Tyler Marc pushed Piper back ahead with another rushing score. Quarterback Josiah Sanchious then hit Jaden Francis for a touchdown to make it a three-point game. Later, Sanchious connected with Butler for the lead, and the Cougars’ defense stopped a fourth-down play to close it out.
Head coach Chris Yeargin praised Piper and singled out Sanchious and Butler as players who deserve more attention across South Florida.
Coconut Creek improved to 8-1. The Cougars close the regular season against Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory School on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. Chaminade-Madonna enters at 7-2 and is ranked fifth in Florida and 20th nationally.
