The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Riviera Beach has reopened after more than a month of closure following severe flooding that damaged most of its merchandise.

In September, more than six inches of water flooded the building and destroyed more than 90% of the store’s inventory, according to the organization. That amounted to more than 50 truckloads of damaged items. Volunteers spent days clearing the debris and replaced the drywall.

John Hrinda of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Palm Beach County said the community responded quickly with donations. Those gifts allowed the store to restock with new furniture, clothing and other items.

Hrinda said some passersby stopped to offer help. Revenue from the store supports Habitat’s mission of providing housing, and he said the group still needs more donations.
