The Urban League of Palm Beach County will hold its annual Youth Empowerment Luncheon, a gathering of students, mentors and community leaders meant to celebrate student achievement and the value of investing in young people. The source report did not give a date or venue for the event.

Dr. Marcia Andrews, the Palm Beach County School Board member for District 6, will receive the Youth Advocate and Educator Award. The honor recognizes her decades of service to students and the community.

Andrews has worked in Palm Beach County education for 51 years, as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director and chief of human resources. She also spent 16 years as an elected school board member. She said her priority has remained helping students feel supported and encouraged to pursue their goals.

The Urban League works with students through the National Achievers Society, which recognizes academic achievement and helps young people prepare for life after high school. Participants can explore career options, do community service, visit college campuses and meet mentors.

Andrews said students should start thinking about their options early and understand that there is more than one path to success. She said she shares the award with students, schools and community members.
