A Broward County woman was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the death of her dog, which was found tied to a fence at a home in Fort Lauderdale the previous day, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
An arrest report says Raymanda Herring, 31, whose permanent address is listed in Miramar, went to the home in the 2900 block of Northwest Eighth Place on Sunday, where the dog was being kept. She found the animal had urinated and defecated inside the house, deputies said. Herring then removed the dog and tied it to a 6-foot fence with a 6-foot leash attached to its collar.
The report states the dog had no food, water or shelter. It could not move more than a foot from the fence and could not lie down without neck restraint, deputies said.
Herring admitted to leaving the dog without food or water, the report says. She returned at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday to check the mail and said the dog was still alive. She left again without providing food or water, then called the Sheriff’s Office, which told her to contact Animal Control. According to the report, she never did. The dog was found dead that evening, still tied to the fence.
Herring faces charges of impounding or confining an animal without sufficient food and causing cruel death, pain and suffering to an animal. As of Thursday morning, she was being held at the Broward County Main Jail and was expected to appear in bond court later that day.
