A Fort Lauderdale steakhouse is turning its upstairs lounge into a sushi omakase dining room for three nights this week. Jay’s Steakhouse, located in a former church at 441 NE 3rd Ave., is hosting the multicourse dinner Thursday through Saturday, with seatings at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Seating is limited to eight guests per night. The meal costs $325 per person.

Chef Max Kamakura said the menu will run 12 to 14 courses, served as small bites rather than full plates. Guests can expect A5 wagyu, caviar, fresh truffle and a salmon roll, along with a seared potato dish topped with wagyu. Kamakura said the meal is designed to be balanced, so diners leave satisfied but not stuffed.

Owner Jay Shirodkar said guests enter through a private entrance on the left side of the building. The lounge sits apart from the steakhouse downstairs, and the restaurant plans to feature several Miami omakase chefs over the next few months.

Omakase means “I’ll leave it up to you” in Japanese. The chefs choose the menu, so guests do not order individual dishes. For Fort Lauderdale diners looking for a reservation-only night out, the series offers a different kind of dinner than the steakhouse’s regular service.
