Rapper and music executive Rick Ross is set to appear in a Miami courtroom Thursday morning for his arraignment. The 50-year-old, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, faces a felony charge of battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence.

Police said the alleged incident happened Aug. 28 at the rapper’s home on Star Island. Sources told 7News it took place there. His ex-girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, accused him of beating and choking her after he became angry over an Instagram photo she was tagged in, according to her statement to detectives. She posted photos of her injuries on social media and later reported the incident to police.

Ross was arrested weeks ago in Miami Beach and bonded out of jail on Oct. 1, when 7News cameras captured him leaving. He told reporters the allegations are false and said he is “totally innocent.”

At the arraignment, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Ross is expected to enter a formal plea to the charges.
