Indian River State College President Timothy Moore has proposed eliminating the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. The college’s Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on the request at a meeting next week.

The college, known as “The River,” has built a long record of success in the pool. The men’s team has won 51 consecutive state titles, and the women’s team has won 47 in a row.

The meeting agenda does not give a reason for the proposal. It does, however, include a discussion about bringing back the women’s basketball team for next season.

The vote would affect student-athletes on both teams and the college’s athletics lineup. Readers can watch for the trustees’ decision at the meeting.
