The City of Boca Raton is holding its first Howl-O-Ween event on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Countess de Hoernle Park. The free, family-friendly morning runs from 9 a.m. to noon and invites dogs and their owners to come in costume.

The lineup includes a photo booth, crafts, a hydration station, community partner booths and sponsor giveaways. A Trail of Treats will have vendors and partners handing out treats and goodies along the route. At 10:30 a.m., the Howl-O-Weener Dachshund Dog Race Contest begins, with heats leading to a champion crown. Dachshunds can be pre-registered for the race.

Mod Dog Salon will offer complimentary teeth or ear cleaning, and Woofie’s of Delray Beach will provide free nail trimming. Both services depend on each dog’s willingness and ability to take part safely.

Owners should keep dogs leashed at all times. The park is not a dog park, and dogs are not allowed on the athletic fields. Pets other than dogs, sick dogs, dogs in heat, fireworks and airhorns are prohibited. Visitors can park in the Athletic Complex lot, with overflow parking across the street at the Spanish River Library. The city’s mobile water unit will offer free filtered water, so attendees are asked to bring a reusable bottle.
