Coral Springs resident Ethan Persten won the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle at the 4A District 11 championship at South Broward High School on October 20. He also swam on the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams that finished first.
Persten, a former swimmer at Coral Glades High School, joined the Cypress Bay High School team this season. The Cypress Bay boys’ team won the district meet. Persten now prepares for the regional meet at the Doral Aquatic Center on October 28.
His father, Brian Persten, said his son works hard and practices every day. Persten also trains with the TS Aquatics club team in Tamarac, which Brian said is typical among the area’s top swimmers.
Coral Glades also had a strong showing. Its boys’ and girls’ teams each finished fourth. The 4X100 relay team took second and qualified for regionals, and Galen Tortorella placed fourth in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.
