Origins Café has opened in Tamarac, bringing freshly roasted Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee to the city’s commercial corridor. The café and micro-roastery opened October 5 at 6805 West Commercial Boulevard.

Owner David Levy said the shop will also serve coffee from Africa, Asia and South America, along with espresso drinks, fruit drinks and pastries. He described Blue Mountain beans as grown at about 5,000 feet above sea level in the mountains of Jamaica.

Levy has imported and distributed Jamaican coffee for about 17 years. He said he wants the café to teach customers about high-quality coffee and the farmers who grow the beans. He also plans coffee tastings and said the small space can host meetings.

Levy credited Tamarac’s city leadership with helping him get the business established. “They have been very supportive of this business, and I am looking forward to serving good coffee to the community,” he said.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
