Dr. Jennifer Liang, a longtime Coral Springs pediatrician at Coral Square Pediatrics, died Sept. 23 at age 74, according to Coral Springs Talk. A memorial service was held Oct. 17 at First Christian Church of Margate.

Liang practiced pediatrics for more than three decades, starting in 1987 after an internship at Miami Children’s Hospital. Her patients and their families knew her for her compassion, sharp mind and warmth, and she was also a familiar face around town as a Coral Springs resident.

Born in Taiwan, Liang was the sixth of seven children. Her family’s account says her parents fled Canton, now Guangzhou, during the Chinese civil war. Before becoming a pediatrician, she worked as a pharmacist.

Shortly after she retired, Liang was diagnosed with mesothelioma. She spent about two and a half years in treatment, splitting time between Florida and Los Angeles, where she was treated at UCLA.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Philip Shen, her child, Kevin Shen, five siblings and nine nieces and nephews. Her family remembers her kindness, devotion to family and guidance.
