Make Our Schools Safe is hosting a free afternoon of reading, crafts and mentorship for young children at the Parkland Library on Thursday, Oct. 22. The “Safety Starts With Me: Book Buddies” event runs from 3 to 6 p.m. and is timed to coincide with America’s Safe Schools Week.
High school students from the MOSS Club will lead story time with “The Safety Squad: Make Our Schools Safe,” a book aimed at showing children how small actions can make schools safer. Kids can pick a “Safety Superpower,” decorate a superhero cape and make a bookmark. Each child will take home a free copy of the book.
The program also includes a K-9 meet-and-greet, snacks and other activities.
Space is limited, so families should register through the online form listed by the organizers.
