A 6-year-old Boca Raton girl got to live out a childhood fantasy this week after Make-A-Wish Southern Florida granted her wish to become a mermaid.

Aria Wells, who has epileptic seizures, spent the day at the Boca Raton Beach Club. Two mermaids gave her a tail like their own, showed her how to swim in it and sang songs with her. The visit ended with a gift basket filled with seashells.

Her mother, Catherine Garcia, said the experience gave her daughter something to look forward to, and something to hold on to, ahead of upcoming medical treatments. Garcia said Aria will likely look back on the day and smile.

One of the mermaids described Aria as loving and energetic, a child who wanted to do nothing but swim.
