A 47-year-old Boca Raton woman was arrested just after 1 a.m. on Oct. 3 at Cosmo’s Nightclub, 99 SE 1st Ave., and faces felony charges after police say she attacked her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend in the women’s restroom. Police said the woman, Waldete Araujo Goncalvez, is charged with robbery by sudden snatching, felony criminal mischief and simple battery. According to case documents, the victim was walking to the restroom when Goncalvez confronted her about being blocked on Instagram. The victim told police that Goncalvez grabbed her arm, pulled her inside, asked whether her boyfriend had bought the $2,600 necklace she was wearing, and yanked it off her neck. Police said Goncalvez bit the victim’s finger when the victim tried to get the necklace back. Officers documented redness on the victim’s neck and forearm and a small cut on a finger.
Goncalvez, speaking through a Portuguese-speaking officer, gave a different account. She said the victim provoked her and attacked first. She admitted taking the necklace, which she said her boyfriend gave her, and told police she handed it to another woman after people separated them. She then asked for a lawyer.
A club manager told police she saw Goncalvez pull the necklace from the victim and then break it apart by hand when asked to return it. The manager gave the broken pieces to the victim but did not give police her name. The arrest form lists no bond on the robbery charge, $1,000 on the battery count and $5,000 on the criminal mischief count.
The charges are allegations, and Goncalvez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
