The Museum of Discovery and Science cut the ribbon on two new exhibits, one focused on protecting ecosystems and one that takes visitors behind the scenes of severe weather forecasting. A grand opening ceremony was held for both.
The first, titled “Build a Better World: The Future Begins With You,” invites children and families to learn how they can support healthier ecosystems and help build resilient communities.
The second is a fully equipped storm center sponsored by Florida Power & Light. It shows the science, technology and decision-making behind predicting the effects of severe weather. Guests can also see a replica of the weather center used by 7News, where younger visitors can imagine themselves as TV meteorologists.
7News meteorologists Phil Ferro and Vivian Gonzalez attended the opening. Museum CEO Joe Cox said the exhibit will help visitors understand how to make the community more resilient to heat and flooding. FPL representative Baldwyn English said the utility plans to extend its partnership with the museum over the next several years.
