A 3-year-old Labrador retriever from Miami is being recognized for his work as a service dog. Eddie supports his blind handler, and he has been named a finalist for the American Humane Society’s 16th annual Hero Dog Awards.

Eddie is competing in the guide and service dogs category, which includes four other finalists. The American Humane Society has not yet named winners in that category.

The winners will be honored in Washington, D.C., in early December. The awards recognize animals that have made a difference in people’s lives, and Eddie’s nomination is a point of pride for dog lovers across Miami-Dade.
