Chess players of all ages and skill levels are invited to the annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge in Tamarac on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Tamarac Community Center, 8601 W. Commercial Blvd. The event is free.
Mayor Michelle Gomez, along with other elected officials and community leaders, hosts the 12th annual tournament. It is part of a South Florida program that promotes chess as a benefit for both kids and adults.
The Tamarac stop is one of several dates across the region. Weston hosts the series first on Oct. 10 at its community center, and Southwest Ranches follows on Oct. 17 at Town Hall. Lighthouse Point, Delray Beach, Deerfield Beach, Miramar, Plantation and Parkland have events scheduled later in the fall and winter, with the series running into May 2027 in Pembroke Pines.
Residents who want to register or ask questions can call the Tamarac Community Center at 954-597-3620. The city’s listing for the event gives the same address and hours.
